I’m a regular contributor to public events and academic conferences around the UK, and further afield – working to share my research and take part in conversations about contemporary culture. I most often talk about live performance, representations of gender and sexuality, Live Art and queer culture, but am interested in the broader question of who gets to participate in the arts and cultural sector as a whole.

For the last three years, I’ve collaborated with Take Me Somewhere festival on a range of conversation and symposium events for a mix of artists, researchers and the general public: these include 2019’s Live Art Scotland forum and Live Art Lunches. I’ve previously worked with or contributed to programmes curated by Forest Fringe, Glasgay!, the Scottish Queer International Film Festival and GOMA, amongst others.

Some recent highlights:

  • ‘The making of an arts-based career’. Deakin Creative Arts Research Symposium. Deakin University. Melbourne, Australia, November 2019.
  • ‘Playing with Pride’. Panel on LGBTQ+ gaming. Glasgow ComicCon. Glasgow, September 2019.
  • ‘Bouncing back from disaster: “adaptive resilience” and Live Art in Scotland’. PSi#25, University of Calgary, Canada, July 2019.
